Cheeseburger Mac is a quick and easy skillet meal that is perfect for any night of the week. With the help of boxed shells & cheese, you can get this tasty meal on the table in under 30 minutes.

Today is my daughter’s 9th birthday, so she is picking out all of our meals for today.  For lunch, she wanted Cheeseburger Mac – a quick and simple recipe that builds on a box of shells & cheese and comes together in about 30 minutes.  It’s quick comfort food, and perfect for today’s birthday lunch, or a busy weeknight dinner for four.

Quick Swaps

  • Swap ground turkey or veggie crumbles for the ground beef
  • Swap sour cream for the Greek yogurt
  • Swap yellow mustard for the Dijon mustard

Shells & Cheese

This recipe uses a prepared box of Shells & Cheese.  We like the organic variety from Aldi, but you can use your family’s favorite as long as it has a packet of cheese sauce and not the cheese powder.

Cheeseburger Mac

1 box of Shells & Cheese
1 lb ground beef
2 1/2 cups milk
1/3 cup ketchup
2 Tbsp dijon mustard
1 Tbsp onion powder
1/4 tsp garlic powder
1/3 cup Greek yogurt
1/4 cup green onions

In a large skillet, brown the ground beef. Drain off the fat.

In a large measuring cup, combine the milk, ketchup, dijon mustard, onion powder, and garlic powder. Pour this mixture over the ground beef.

Add the shell pasta from your box of Shells & Cheese.

Cover and simmer for 10 minutes, or until the pasta is cooked and most of the liquid has been absorbed.

Turn off the heat. Stir in the cheese pouch and Greek yogurt.

Top with green onions and enjoy!

It’s yummy and the kind of comfort food I remember having as a kid. Any boxed shells and cheese with the creamy cheese packet (not the powder) works really well.
