Summer is here in full force, and with everyone coming and going, our homes can start to feel … a little less than fresh. Between open windows, sandy feet, cookouts, and kids running in and out, it doesn’t take long before things need a good clean-up.
That’s why I love doing a quick July deep clean. It’s not as intense as spring cleaning, but it’s a great way to reset your home and keep it feeling cool, tidy, and welcoming through the hottest part of the year.
Here’s my simple July checklist to get your home summer-ready in just a weekend:
1. Freshen the Air
- Clean or replace your HVAC/AC filters — your system works overtime in summer, and clean filters help it run more efficiently.
- Wipe down ceiling fan blades (and reverse them if needed for summer airflow). Don’t forget to wear a mask and take your allergy meds before conquering the ceiling fans if you have a dust allergy.
- Open the windows in the morning or evening to let in fresh air before it gets too hot.
2. Tackle Windows & Doors
- Clean window tracks and sills — summer dust and pollen love to settle there.
- Wipe down glass on doors and windows inside and out.
- Check screens for holes and repair if needed to keep bugs out.
3. Floors & Rugs
- Give all floors a good vacuum and mop to get rid of sand, grass, and pet fur.
- Take area rugs outside and shake them out.
- If you can, let rugs air out in the sun to freshen them naturally.
4. Bedrooms & Bedding
- Wash sheets and lightweight blankets — line dry if you can for that fresh summer smell.
- Flip or rotate mattresses if it’s been a while.
- Declutter nightstands and dressers — they tend to collect clutter over the summer.
5. Outdoor Spaces
- Wipe down patio furniture and sweep porches.
- Empty and clean coolers from last month’s picnics.
- Hose down outdoor toys, water tables, and even the trash bins.
6. Add Summer Touches
Once you’ve deep cleaned, it’s the perfect time to add a few cheerful summer touches:
- A vase of fresh flowers or herbs from the garden.
- Swap heavy throw blankets for lightweight ones.
- Put a pitcher of lemon water or iced tea in the fridge so you can relax and enjoy your refreshed home.
Deep cleaning in July doesn’t have to be overwhelming — just focus on the spots that really take a beating during summer, and you’ll feel so much better enjoying these hot days in a cool, clean home.
