I’ve spent years looking for the perfect digital wall calendar for our family—one that would keep our schedules organized without another monthly subscription or a price tag that made me cringe. What I didn’t expect was to find something that could do so much more. The Everblog HomeCal has become our family’s command center, helping us manage calendars, chores, grocery lists, meal planning, and even our freezer inventory all from one central location.

Why I Wanted a Digital Wall Calendar for Our Family

For the past few years, I have been looking for a digital wall calendar. I wanted one device that would display everyone’s Google calendars — a unified digital wall calendar without me having to input everything into a new platform and maintain multiple resources. I loved the idea. I didn’t love the price tag.

One of the big-name brands has a beautiful display calendar that goes for about $630 and has an annual subscription. Another competitor came in close to $800 without a subscription. Neither of those was the right choice because it simply wasn’t affordable.

Steve started looking into ideas for creating a touchscreen display using a Raspberry Pi, but I vetoed it because I wanted something I could purchase off the shelf, plug in, and have work without relying on him to code it.

I had resigned myself to not having a wall calendar, and I’d continue to track the family’s calendars from my laptop.

How I Found the Everblog HomeCal

Then came the next project. I needed to find a way of tracking our freezer inventory. We have multiple freezers in the garage, and I didn’t want food to go in there and be forgotten. I knew there had to be an app or a system that someone else had already created, and after a quick search, I landed on Everblog.

The things I was reading shared that the Everblog app had a freezer inventory that you could input details from your phone, manage your inventory, grocery lists, and even menu plan. The only problem, it wasn’t just an app. The only way you got the Everblog app was when you purchased one of their display calendars.

The first thing I learned during my deep dive was that the app would connect to your specific device; you couldn’t access it independently. You would be able to input details directly on the device or on the app. Sounded perfect.

And there was no subscription fee! Sounded even better.

The Everblog FridgeCal costs $249, and the Everblog HomeCal comes in at $349. Both are significantly less expensive than the competitors. Both devices do the same thing; the difference is the size, and the FridgeCal is magnetic so it can attach to your refrigerator door.

We opted for the Everblog 21.5″ HomeCal and mounted it on our dining room wall since I had wanted a family wall calendar. What I got was an entire family command center!

One FYI – Calendar Syncing

When you first sync your calendars, it can take a while for everything to show up properly on your Eveblog device. The more calendars you try to sync, and the older they are, the longer it will take. I was trying to sync 7 calendars, most of which are more than a decade old so lots of data.

It worried me when things weren’t showing up properly. All-day events were showing up the day before they were to begin. Data was missing for one of the calendars but not all of them.

Just be patient and trust the process. Leave everything plugged in and powered on, and it will eventually all sync properly.

Our Favorite Features of the Everblog HomeCal

We have only had our Everblog HomeCal for a little over a week, and we are already starting routines and systems for ourselves to utilize it to the fullest.

I have peri-menopause brain and do not have the mental bandwidth to just hold all of the information, schedules, chores, and shopping lists in my head. The fact that we have this command center in a central location in our home and everyone knows to add items to the grocery list, check off their chores, and check the family calendar for what’s going on has been a lifesaver!

Moreover, I like that I can access that data when I’m on the go from my phone. I can add chores, update an appointment, or even check in on a shopping list item. I can even check what I have in my kitchen inventory so I don’t end up with extras that will cost us money or will spoil before they are consumed.

Features I Wish the Everblog HomeCal Had

• A Noteboard – a simple section to leave a message for the kids or my husband without it having to be on a to-do list.
• Open meal planning without having to create “recipes”. Sometimes you just want to write “chicken” on the menu board and not have it link to anything. I also would like the ability to list the breakfast or lunch options so my kids can grab it themselves – knowing what they can help themselves to from a list.
• A web interface! I type so much faster on my computer than I do on an app. I would absolutely love for there to be a web-based interface for updating everything. A Chromebook app would be a nice touch as well.

Is the Everblog HomeCal the Right Digital Wall Calendar for Your Family?

No product is ever going to be perfect, and I don’t expect the Everblog HomeCal to be. There are definitely a few features I’d love to see added in future updates, but even after just a week of using it, I can confidently say that it has already changed the way our family communicates and stays organized.

For years, I thought a digital wall calendar was a luxury item that simply wasn’t in our budget. What I didn’t realize was that what I really needed wasn’t just a calendar—it was a family command center. Having our schedules, chores, shopping lists, meal plans, and kitchen inventory all in one place has taken so much of the mental load off my shoulders.

As a homeschool mom juggling Scouts, appointments, field trips, household management, and three teenagers, I don’t have the brain space to remember everything anymore. The HomeCal has become the place where our family goes for answers instead of asking Mom to keep track of it all. Ok, lets be honest they still ask but now I point to the calendar.
