The weather was absolutely perfect yesterday. The sky was clear and sunny; temps in the low 50s; barely a breeze. It was as if spring had arrived a month early! I took advantage of the beautiful weather and the children and I went to the Philadelphia Zoo for the day. I was amazed that they were so empty! Only the first floor of the parking garage was full, and the other lots were empty too.
We didn’t have to wait our turn to see any of the animals because there was no one ahead of us. My children were mesmerized by how close they could get to the tigers and lions (through the glass wall), and the large cats were pacing right in front of us. All of the animals were enjoy the spring weather as well, and they were very active playing for all of us to see and appreciate their beauty.
Since we homeschool, we took the time at the zoo to practice our map skills (where are we? where do we want to go?), and discussed the various habitats that the animals came from vs where they are living now. Yesterday was also when it finally clicked for my daughter that these are wild animals, and in some parts of the world the monkeys, lemurs, and other animals are as common to see in nature as the squirrels and raccoons are for us.
On our way home, the children and I discussed what we would be having for lunch and dinner that day (Burger King for lunch and leftovers for dinner), and began brainstorming some ideas for the remainder of the week.

Beyond The Menu Plan
I am also hoping to make some of my own mixes to have on hand so that meal prep will go more smoothly and we have our own homemade convenience foods. Homemade convenience foods are cheaper than the pre-packaged ones and they are often much healthier. Plus you can control the ingredients and compensate for preferences or allergies.
What’s on your meal plan for the upcoming week?
