One of my goals for 2016, is to get control of my health. I have gone completely off the healthy living bandwagon since my son was born almost 3 years ago, and its time to get healthy again. I have three healthy living goals: to lose weight, to have enough energy to keep up with my children, and to feel better about myself and my body.
Through conversations with my primary physician, we decided on a game plan that will work for me, and I am starting this week!
- Eat Breakfast! I don’t eat breakfast most days, and I know that I should. I feel better when I have food in my system, and I eat less over the course of the day when I have breakfast in the morning.
- Stay Hydrated! I used to do very well drinking water, however soda has crept back into my diet, and replaced most of the water I was drinking in a day. That means I am consuming about 600-800 calories in beverages each day! I’d rather have ice cream, than have one-third of my daily calories come from a drink.
- Get Active! I do not have a gym membership, and while I would love to, I have this sinking feeling that I would just be making a donation to the facility each month and not attending as often as I would like. My doctor recommended that I walk for at least 5-10 minutes after each meal, and just to move around. He said I can work up to more formal workouts as I build up my strength & endurance.
- Take a Multi-Vitamin! This is the easiest of the habits since I have always taken a multi-vitamin … well until a few months ago when I ran out and stopped taking them, and was too lazy to go buy a new bottle.
My physician and I have always had an open dialogue about various treatment options, and he knows that I prefer to take vitamins and supplements over medications. All of the supplements that I take are with my physician’s blessing, and they work for me. Before you start making any lifestyle changes, please have a conversation with your physician so that you can make an informed decision for what is best for you.
So with my doctor giving me the green light, I went online to order my vitamins and supplements. Around the same time, I was offered an opportunity to work with Lucky Vitamin – an online retailer offering more than 40,000 health and wellness products ranging from vitamins, nutrition & herbs to healthy natural and organic foods, natural skin care & beauty, vegan, vegetarian & gluten free products, healthy home products and more.
I have been shopping Lucky Vitamin for years, and love that their products save me a lot of money, close to 75% off retail, while still providing quality products. I really like their private label items and find them to be just as effective as some of the more well known brand names.
I spent about $50 on vitamins and supplements that I was out of and didn’t currently have in my bin (I keep a bin in the linen closet of all of my vitamins, supplements, and essential oils). I was able to purchase lecithin, Vitamin C, Chromium Picolinate, , probiotics, and green coffee extract – each with more than a 2 month supply. I also purchased a bottle of B-complex vitamins, even though they were listed as being on back order. I received notice that they should arrive shortly, which is perfect since I still had enough for a few weeks on hand.
It has been less than 24 hours since I started taking my vitamins again, so I will see how I feel over the next few days as my body adjusts to taking everything again since it has been a while. Hopefully, by taking my vitamins daily and following my doctor’s advice to take baby steps towards better health and wellness, my quality of life will improve.
Lucky Vitamin wants to help one Happily Homegrown reader with their own health and wellness goals, so we are giving away a $50 gift certificate for your own personal online shopping spree. While I chose to purchase vitamins and supplements, you can get so much more than that at Lucky Vitamin, even organic and natural foods, skincare, and specialty foods for those who follow a vegetarian, vegan, or gluten free diet!
