My favorite room in the house is my kitchen. Its not beautiful or top of the line. I don’t even have ample counter space for all of my projects. However, I absolutely love to cook and bake, so the majority of my leisure time as well as my time as a mom is spent in the kitchen. But there is 1 catch …
I HATE CLEANING THE KITCHEN!
Its true, besides bathroom, which is now on my children’s chore list, I hate cleaning the kitchen. There are so many different deep cleaning projects that need to happen in the kitchen, and in my infinite wisdom, I try to tackle them all on the same day. That may have been possible when I didn’t have children, but with 3 kids at home – its just not happening all in a single cleaning session any more. Which then makes me feel like I’m cleaning for days and days, which I am, but its really not that bad when I’m spending 30 minutes here and 20 minutes there.
It has taken me 3 days just to clean my oven and stove, yet when I finally did it, I deep cleaned the entire thing in less than an hour. It just took me 3 days of having “clean oven & stove” on the list before it actually got done.
I decided today’s deep cleaning project is to tackle the dishwasher. Its recommended that you clean your dishwasher monthly, and I am usually pretty good about that. Already this morning, I have taken apart the trap and spray arm from the bottom of the dishwasher to clean those, and right now the dishwasher is going through a cleaning cycle with vinegar and baking soda to disinfect the entire thing. The vinegar is also good for the pipes and hoses, and will help break down the minerals that are in there.
With the deep cleaning project of the day underway, I’m looking around the kitchen and coming up with 5 more tasks that I can do today.
- canning jars to the basement – all of them. I have 8 empty cases and 4 full cases of jars that need to go
- 2 bins of photos & photo albums to the basement (I’m repurposing the hutch that they were all in)
- all groceries to the pantry instead of still in the shopping bags on the floor
- empty the fryer, dispose of the oil, clean the fryer, put it in the basement
- clean the ceiling fan
I totally need the accountability which is why I am posting the housework that I need to get done. I have until the 20th to get my home “Company Ready” and I’m tackling it one room at a time, with some rooms taking several days to get done because I’m breaking the tasks into smaller chunks.
In addition to my housework goals, I am working on the 40 Bags in 40 Days Combat Clutter Challenge, and will be working on the day 2 assignment – cleaning out my medicine cabinet.
But before I can get any of that started, I need to have a cup of tea, a little breakfast, and get dressed and get this day started.
What are your goals for today?
