The first 40-days
It’s been a month since I started my journey to better health and weight loss. A few surprising things have happened along the way. I no longer crave soda! This surprises me so much for the sheer volume that I was consuming each day. Sodas now taste way too sweet and syrupy. They’re not enjoyable any more.
If I don’t have breakfast, not only am I cranky and miserable for the morning, but my energy for the remainder of the day stinks too. I have found that having a smoothie first thing in the morning is the perfect fit for my busy lifestyle. Smoothies are a great way to get 3-5 servings (depending on how much I have to share with the kids) of fruits and veggies first thing in the morning.
Eating at home has become a lot easier thanks to menu planning. We had takeout one night since I started eating better, and the food made me feel extremely sluggish, and kinda blah for the next day. That reaction really drove home the fact that we are what we eat, and if you put good stuff in you’ll feel good. On the flip side, if you put crap food in, you’re going to feel like that too.
I no longer felt puffy, my skin is clearer, and I have more energy! While some of the changes in my body were because of weight loss, a lot of the changes I was seeing were a result of eating better, cutting back on the salt and caffeine, and staying well hydrated. I just feel more comfortable in my own skin.
A Set Back
One of my goals is to get more active. I’ve been having a lot of aches and pains, so when I visited with my doctor she scheduled a series of X-rays. The diagnosis – heel spurs in my left foot and arthritis in my lower back. I am not cleared for activity until after I have visited with the podiatrist, and have completed several weeks of physical therapy. This threw a HUGE monkey wrench into my plans for getting active. Instead of letting it discourage me, I’ve been working with my physician to come up with exercises that are low impact that I can do. I won’t let this stop me!
In a short 40-days, I have lost 8 pounds, gone down a pant size, developed some healthy habits, and feel better overall. Healthy diet and taking alli® weight loss aid has definitely been the greatest gift I could give myself this year.
I am a huge advocate for finding something that works for you and sticking with it; and am so happy to have repeated success with alli® weight loss aid. alli® (orlistat 60mg capsules) weight loss aid is the only FDA approved over-the-counter weight loss aid on the market. It works by blocking 25% of the fat you eat from being absorbed by your body. For every 5-10 pounds you lose on your own through healthy eating and exercise, alli® weight loss aid can help you lose 2-3 more*.
I just picked up another bottle of alli® weight loss aid at Target (and saved $10 with this coupon), so I’m ready for my next 40-days.
Since I take several vitamin and mineral supplements, I have worked with my doctor to figure out the best time to take them so they are most effective. My physician told me to take water soluble vitamins – like B-complex – in the morning as I have always done, but to shift my fat soluble vitamins – Vitamin D and Fish Oil – to bedtime to improve their absorption while taking alli® weight loss aid. It’s a small change to my routine, but it is so important to have these conversations with your physician when embarking on a weight loss journey.
Since I am in this for the long haul, and still have about 50 lbs to lose, I need to do little things to keep myself on track and motivated. I am still using my Food & Fitness Journal to track what I eat. I have also decided to start tracking my measurements, so that on those weeks where the scale doesn’t move, I don’t lose my motivation. It’s important to celebrate those small victories and not put all of our success into a single number on the scale.
* alli® (orlistat 60mg capsules) is for weight loss in overweight adults, 18 years and older, when used along with a reduced-calorie and low-fat diet. Follow label directions. In studies, most people lost 5-10 pounds over 6 months.
